With this complete edition of Egon Wellesz's piano works, the Viennese pianist Margarete Babinsky, in cooperation with the Egon Wellesz Fund Vienna, has for the first time presented a complete anthology of the works from 1909 to 1969 - a fascinating journey through the entire 20th century.

The life of Egon Wellesz (1885-1974) is representative of numerous composers whose careers were abruptly interrupted by the machinations of the National Socialists. Until 1938 the Austrian Wellesz was one of the most sought-after composers of the younger generation. The forced flight to England ended this successful development abruptly. Luckily the well-educated, expert in music history, Wellesz was able to continue working as a professor at Oxford, but his activity as a composer was slow to pick up again – many earlier compositions had been lost.
