The Madrigals and the Mass are a-capella choral music and belong to the last compositions by Hindemith. The mass is Hindemith's last finished composition. The music on this CD is devoid of any show effects. Chromatism determines the melodic and harmonic course of events, yet Hindemith's own contrapuntal style somehow recalls the music from the Renaissance period. The Madrigals from 1958 in particular evoke the acapella music of Carlo Gesualdo.
"Der Junge Chor Aachen" under Fritz ter Wey couldn't have done it any better.
