Chung returns for Nielsen's three concertos, which have been well served on disc, especially the flute and clarinet works, which fill a gap for modern woodwind concertos. They've attracted the best soloists (Simon Rattle is about to release a CD pairing both concertos with the first chairs of the Berlin Phil.), but Chung is so vigorous and his two soloists so ebullient and committed that these readings cap his cycle with great success. There's no similar lack of modern violin concertos, but the Nielsen, if rarely programmed, has enjoyed two superlative recordings from Maxim Vengerov and Cho-Liang Lin. Dong-Suk Kang isn't of their caliber but delivers a very accomplished and sympathetic reading. The best sound is on the violin recording, but the other two are good enough.
