Born in Seoul, harpist Kyung-Hee KIM-SUTRE began her musical studies when she was eight years old, then entered the Seoul National University where she studied with Kyo-Sook Lee. In 1985, she gained entrance to the Curtis Institute of Music (USA) and became a student of Marylin Costello (solist of the Philadelphia Orchestra) for the following four years. After her graduation, she studied with Susan Mcdonald at Indiana University (Bloomington USA), then with Brigitte Sylvestre in the Paris Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique. Prize winner of some of the most famous international competitions, including 1st Prize of the prestigious "Elizabeth Herbert Hobin" (USA) Harp competition in 1987, she is recognized as one of the leading harpists, and has received invitation from such orchestras as Philadelphia Curtis Institute Orchestra, South Jersey Symphony for a five-concert tour on the east cost of USA, North Carolina symphony, etc. With Guillaume Sutre, she won 1st Prize in the "Lily Laskine" International Chamber Music Competition in 1990. She now plays regulary in Europe, in USA and in Asia, as a soloist or chamber music partner, particulary with Guillaume Sutre, Raphaël Oleg, Miguel Da Silva, Laure Colladant, The Ysaÿe Quartet, The Ludwig Quartet, David Grimal, Michel Moragues. Recently, she was invited to give a recital in Paris, at the Auditorium du Louvre, in the Museum Georges Sand "de la Vie Romantique", and to participate to the music festivals of Nancy, Reims, Val d'Aulnay and Royan, etc. Some of her recitals have been broadcasted by the channel Muzzik (Festival Ravel in 1998), and by the Arte Channel (Flâneries Musicales in Reims 1999). After a first recording for the Label «Mandala» (distribution Harmonia Mundi Worldwild) with the J.L. Dussek duets for Harp and Piano-Forte, she continued with a recording of the J.L. Dussek Sonatas for Harp Solo, which was acclaimed by the musical reviews. Her next recording is in preparation and will contains the works of G.F Handel. Kyung-Hee KIM-SUTRE plays a rare instrument of the famous French harp maker M. Erard (who invented the actual Harp with double-action pedals), made in 1904.
