This is a most illuminating collection if you want to

trace the emergence of Baroque instrumental forms.

But these works are also good listening—full of invention, more relaxed and

even more tuneful than many of the “canonical” counterparts by the eminent Corelli.

While bits and segments of this output have been recorded since,

this release still stands alone in its comprehensiveness.

Until other performers and labels take the hint and give us more up-to-date renditions,

this set remains indispensable, certainly for reference.
