About Andrea Merenzon

 

Bassoon solo and promoter of Latin American repertoire for this instrument. Integrates the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra and Brass Quintet NUMEN. She has performed as soloist in Europe, Latin America and the USA. First Prize Winner of the National Endowment for the Arts, she has recorded 6 solo CD. Among those include "Latinoamerican Masterpieces," "Frontiers America", "Merenzon ... for bassoon and orchestra." Editor of the Collection of Latin American works for Bassoon "Andrea Merenzon." Vice President-elect of the International Double Reed Society which brings together the world's oboists and bassoonists. She has received the distinction of "Woman of the Year" 1998 from ABI (USA). She directs the International Music Festival of Buenos Aires and organized the  International Congress of the IDRS, first held in Latin America in 2000.

Successful professor Andrea Merenzon received several distinctions throughout her career. Among the most important there are the Latin Grammy 2005 for best Classical Album Production, merit diploma awarded by Centro Cultural Konex; and 2005 Women of the Year award elected by Clarín newspaper. Also, she was recognized Women of the Year by two international institutions: The American Biographical Institute and the Cambridge Biographical Institute, in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

She studied at the University of Indiana, United States, on a scholarship granted by the Colón Theater Foundation. She is member of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra since 1987 and, has worked as producer and artistic coordinator of the symphonic and camera program of the Colón Theater. Merenzon founded and directed various festivals such as the Buenos Aires International Music Festival, the Buenos Aires International Contest and the Youth Orchestras International Encounter.

Merenzon offered numerous performances as soloist for the Argentina Symphonic Orchestra and for the Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and Córdoba Symphonic Orchestras. She has also participated in Latin America orchestras, in countries such as Uruguay, Chile, Panamá, Brazil, and Mexico; and in the rest of the world, in United States, Canada, France, Turkey, Romania, among others
